Microdermabrasion

Exfoliation is essentially the removal of the oldest skin cells on the skin’s outermost surface – this practice has been used for many years to help preserve healthy skin. It’s used in the process of all facials, during microdermabrasion. But what is Microdermabrasion?

What Does it Do?

Microdermabrasion is a safe, natural way to exfoliate your old skin cells and to reveal a cleaner, more youthful looking appearance. Our medical aestheticians use a technique that uses small crystals to fine, resurface and polish the epidermal layer of the skin, which results in a brighter, smoother, clearer skin tone.

Continually repeating this process (once every 2 weeks, for about 6-8 weeks) will stimulate the perpetual production of a new layer of skin cells that will bring with it an increased level of collagen and elastin, resulting in a fresher, younger looking exterior. After the first treatment, you will see marginal improvements on the surface and colour but generally by the third treatment, results are much more noticeable. The popularity of this treatment has exponentially increased in recent years due to the boosted interest by celebrities and non-invasive nature of the process. It’s become commonly referred to in society as the “instant facelift.” An attractive trait about the method is that it’s convenient alternative to cosmetic surgery. Microdermabrasion Toronto can be used to mitigate or reduce sunspots, harsh lines, sallowness and large pores on your face or desired area. It can also help reduce acne, sun damage, blemishes or near permanent scars. The Procedure

Although the process sounds complex, it is using science that has been tested and used by our medical professionals for years. A diamond hand piece or ultra fine uniform beads used through a crystal microdermabrasion machine are propelled and re-gathered by a vacuum device then used to polish your skin’s surface. The aforementioned crystals gently exfoliate dead skin cells of the outermost layer. The whole process takes approximately an hour in total. After the treatment, you may experience a slight tingling sensation and your skin may feel tighter as if exposed to the wind or sun, which is a perfectly normal feeling. That sense is the gradual process of newer skin cells developing and replacing the old ones. Your skin may potentially appear slightly flushed but this feeling typically fades in less than a day. Since there is marginal discomfort and basically no healing time as it’s a gradual process, you can resume normal activities right after the treatment.
