Photofacials, also known as Photorejuvenation are BBL (Broad Band Light) treatments that will gradually improve the tone and texture of your skin. This treatment decreases redness and obvious blood vessels and also lightens dark spots on your skin. You may also notice that your pores may appear tighter and some fine lines dissipate.
Who may have this treatment?
Males and females (Fitzpatrick Skin types I-IV) with obvious blood vessels, a flushed appearance, brown spots, red spots, enlarged pores, mild wrinkling, rosacea, freckles or hyperpigmentation may have this treatment.
What areas can be treated?
The face, chest, neck, upper back, forearms, and hands are the most commonly treated areas.
BBL is a light-based technology. BBL uses a variety of different wavelengths of light (eg. 516-1200 nm) to target brown spots, red spots and collagen in the skin. The heat generated from the light targets and vaporizes the browns, coagulates the reds and heats the collagen. The body’s healing mechanisms take over and slough the browns, absorb the reds and strengthen the collagen. The result is a more even skin tone and some collagen remodeling.
How many treatments do I need?
The average person requires 5 treatments, usually 1 treatment every 3 weeks. Clients with brown spots or hyperpigmentation often will notice a significant change after only 2 treatments. Clients with red spots or flushing will usually notice a significant change after 3 treatments. The final 2 to 3 treatments will continue to improve color, texture, and the pore size.
There is a mild warm stinging sensation during the BBL treatment but it is very tolerable. Your face will be covered with a cool gel for additional comfort.
What can I expect after the treatment?
There is no downtime with photofacials so you can have one on your lunch break! Your face may appear flushed which usually fades within a few hours. Clients with hyperpigmentation may notice that their brown spots appear darker after the treatment until they flake off in 7 to 10 days. Makeup may be used after the treatment if desired. Sometimes a client can develop a small bruise on the face. It does not hurt, can be covered with make up and will fade in about 7 to 10 days. If you have a lot of browns or reds on your cheeks and around your eyes, you may develop some slight swelling lasting for a few days while skin is healing.
Who cannot have this treatment?
Some medications and medical conditions can interfere with photofacials, for example, by making your skin more sensitive to the light treatments. Your physician will review your history to assess your suitability. Photofacials are not recommended if you are pregnant, have a tan, or if you have unrealistic expectations.
How long does a session take?
Generally a full face takes approximately 30 minutes to treat. Larger areas will take longer and smaller areas, like the hands, will take less time.
How much does a treatment cost?
A full face treatment is $425 plus tax. Discounts are available if you purchase a package of 3 or 6 sessions.
