Don’t Forget Your Neck and Décolletage
We worry about crow’s feet, nasolabial folds and marionette lines. We put so much effort in caring for the skin on our faces. But what about the neck and décolletage? The skin in these areas is thinner and has less oil glands than the face so it is more susceptible to dryness and irritation. As a result, signs of aging like crepiness, wrinkles, discolouration and sagging appear sooner.
It’s time to focus on our neck and décolletage with these suggestions…so we don’t have to hide out in our turtlenecks!
Sunscreen
Sunscreen is the most important home care product you will ever buy for your face, neck and décolletage. Since 90% of skin aging is due to the effects of the sun, be proactive and use it every day.
Moisturizer
As said above, the skin on the neck and décolletage is more susceptible to dryness and irritation so don’t forget to moisturize!
Serum
After cleansing and before moisturizer, apply a serum with anti-aging ingredients like retinol and peptides that firm the skin. Hydrating serums boost moisture to plump the skin. Just be careful because the neck is more sensitive to ingredients than the face.
Skin tightening
Saggy and crepey skin on the neck can be tightened with in-clinic treatments like radiofrequency (eg. Venus Freeze™, TriPollar, Thermage®). These treatments heat the deep layers of the skin which causes existing collagen to contract and tighten. New collagen is also stimulated.
Skin firming and smoothing
Skin texture can be smoothed and firmed with microneedling or laser resurfacing which stimulate collagen production and enhance cell turnover. Hyaluronic acid gel injections like Juvederm® Volite or Restylane® Skinboosters hydrate the skin and stimulate collagen production.
