Order & Application

Product Order and Application Tips

Applying your skincare products in the correct order will increase the chances that your skin receives the full benefits of each product. In general, products should be applied from thinner to thicker consistency. Therefore, toners should be applied first, followed by serums, and then thicker formulas like moisturizers. Ingredients in thinner formulas, like serums, generally absorb faster, which means applying them after a thick cream might impede their absorption.

Always apply your mineral sunscreen last since it reflects, scatters and absorbs the sun’s rays. Products that exfoliate and increase cell turnover, like glycolic acid, salicylic acid and retinol serums, should be used in the evening. Always wash your face in the morning. While you sleep, your skin repairs itself, excreting toxins and excess sebum that can prevent morning products from absorbing into the skin. In addition, washing your face in the morning removes nighttime products, which may contain ingredients that are not recommended for daytime use, such as retinol and acids.
